In 1998, the Health Visitors in Wyke Regis felt that there were a number of housebound, frail, lonely elderly people who would benefit from a change of scene and the company of others.

With the help of the Weymouth branch of Age Concern, the Pop- In was started in the Wyke Regis Memorial Hall. Every Thursday afternoon from 2.00p pm. Until4.00 pm, anyone can pop in for a cup of tea and a chat. There is no joining fee - just a small charge towards the cost of tea and biscuits. An optional weekly raffle takes place to boost the funds.

The majority of our members are housebound and so required to be collected by car. Sometimes games are organised: - beetle drives, bingo and quizzes etc. Keep-fit is a weekly activity; it is surprising the exercises which can be done whilst sitting in a chair with suitable music and the encouragement of a trained teacher. Once a month a speaker is invited to give a talk of general interest, or some entertainment is provided in the form of play readings, dancing demonstrations or musical singsongs along with the piano. However the activity most enjoyed by all is the chance to have a cup of tea in good company.

The Committee and helpers are all Volunteers, most of whom have been working with the Pop-In since its inception twenty years ago.
